JAMES LAWLESS – CONTINUING ISSUES IN PARKING AT SALLINS STATION

James Lawless TD has said that he will continue to work to try and bring about improvements in the parking situation at Sallins train station.

James commented, “Following multiple complaints and incidences of people being blocked in, Irish Rail are now enforcing parking regulation at the station. However they have committed to relining and redesigning the carpark in the next 2-3 weeks which should produce a small increase in capacity. In the meantime Irish Rail plans for a 200+ space extension to the carpark are in discussion with Kildare County Council planning department and I am in close contact with Tetrarch the new owners of Waterways to try accelerate the opening of the underground carpark.”

O’ROURKE WELCOMES EASING OF MORTGAGE SWITCH RESTRICTIONS

Frank O’Rourke TD has welcomed the introduction of new rules by the Central Bank which will make it easier for mortgage holders to switch banks.

Frank said, “I have made repeated calls for a fairer mortgage market in Ireland. Irish variable mortgage rates are nearly double than of the EU average. The rest of Europe is paying interest of around 1.8% – while Irish customers are paying an average of 3.2% ”
“Under new central bank rules, Banks will have to tell customers if they can make savings on their mortgages. Recent research has established that approximately one-in-five homeowners could save money by switching to a better interest rate.”

“I am hoping that the new central bank rules in relation to mortgage switching will bring increased competitiveness to the market, with better rate offers from banks who will not want customers to switch to another lender.”

O’ROURKE WELCOMES TIERMOHAN EXTENSION

Frank O’Rourke TD  has welcomed confirmation that the Department of Education has approved a three  classroom extension to the Tiermohan National School (NS). 

Frank commented,  “Last year, I met with the Principal of the School and saw at first hand the need for this extension. I made representations to the Minister and the Department of Education to put pressure on to secure approval for this extension. I am delighted that the extension has now been approved.” 

“As our demand grows for extra school places, we must build extensions or provide new schools for growing areas. I am delighted that Tiermohan have been successful in securing approval for their extension. Great credit is due to the Principal, Parents and Board of Management for their work in securing this approval.” Concluded Deputy O’Rourke.

O’CEARUIL CALLS FOR FULL-TIME GARDA STATION IN MAYNOOTH

Councillor Naoise O’Cearuil has called for a full-time Garda station in Maynooth following the latest spate of burglaries in the town on Monday the 21st of January.

These burglaries occurred during the evening and a number of vehicles were stolen. Houses in new estates Hayfield and Carton Wood were targeted in this most recent attack. The perpetrators used the “fishing” method on some homes, where they put a fishing rod in through the letter box to pick up keys on nearby tables.

Commenting on the matter, Councillor Ó Cearúil said, “Once again, the town is being targeted by thugs who have an easy escape onto the N4. My own home has been targeted in the past and this is becoming a far too regular occurrence”.

He continued, “I’ve been calling for a full-time station in Maynooth for years. Taking the burglaries aside, Maynooth is the only town in the country with a University. This means that the town has an additional population of 12,000 which is not accounted for in the census figures and all the additional issues that 12,000 people bring with it. We are looking at an even bigger population with the increase in houses in the area. I am unaware of any town in Ireland with a population of over 24,000 people without a full-time station… Enough is enough”

“It is high time that the Minister for Justice and Commissioner Harris recognise the need for a full time operational station in Maynooth. I have written to Chief Superintendent Wall, Minister Charlie Flanagan and Commissioner Harris calling for a full-time station in Maynooth”.

O’ROURKE CRITICISES GOVERNMENT INACTION ON INSURANCE FRAUD

Frank O’Rourke TD has criticised the government for delaying legislation which would clamp down on insurance fraud.

Frank commented, “Recent findings published by the insurance industry has labelled half of all personal injury claims brought to court as “potentially fraudulent”. False and misleading claims have negative …consequences for Irish policyholders and drive up the cost of insurance premiums.”

“The cost of both motor insurance and business insurance remains stubbornly high for households and businesses across the country.
