O’ROURKE SAYS HOMECARE PACKAGES SHOULD BE PART OF FAIR DEAL

Frank O’Rourke TD has said Home Care Packages should be added as an option as part of the Fair Deal Scheme

“Earlier this year, Fianna Fail introduced the Nursing Home Support Scheme (amendment Bill) 2016, which will facilitate the use of the Fair Deal Scheme model for Home Care Packages. The Bill  passed through to the second stage of the legislative process and is now scheduled to come before the Dail again in July” stated Deputy O’Rourke.

“My experience with my constituents who attend my weekly clinic in relation to care for their elderly parents or relations, is that many families are choosing care at home rather than residential care. On average, it costs three times as much to care for someone in a nursing home than in their own home.” Continue reading “O’ROURKE SAYS HOMECARE PACKAGES SHOULD BE PART OF FAIR DEAL”

O’ROURKE SEEKS CAPITAL INVESTMENT FOR KILDARE

Frank O’Rourke TD has called on the Government to invest in infrastructure to improve local services, and facilitate the delivery of new housing units

This can be achieved under the €200m Local Infrastructure Housing Activation Fund. Deputy O’Rourke renewed his call after meeting with Department of Housing officials this week again.

‘The relatively low capital investment programme that the Government announced in the Budget is disappointing.  Given the low cost of capital with nearly negative interest rates, the Government has been given a unique opportunity to address some of the infrastructural deficits that are evident in places like Kildare.’ Continue reading “O’ROURKE SEEKS CAPITAL INVESTMENT FOR KILDARE”

O’ROURKE SEEKS EXPANSION IN HOUSING ADAPTATION GRANT

Frank O’Rourke TD has said that extra resources for Housing Adaptation Grants are needed to assist with independent living

Frank commented, ‘Given the projected increase in the number of older people in Ireland, it is important that we put in place polices and supports to deal with this reality.  In 2006, there were 468,000 people aged 65 or older in Ireland, but by 2041, the number of people in this country aged 65 or older will be 1.4 million. The over-80s population is projected to rise from 128,000 in 2011 to between 470,000 and 484,000 in 2046.’

‘With this in mind, the requirement for extra funding, over the medium to long term, for Housing Adaptation grants for older people needs to be taken into consideration,’ stated Deputy O’Rourke Continue reading “O’ROURKE SEEKS EXPANSION IN HOUSING ADAPTATION GRANT”
