James Lawless TD has welcomed the extension of Broadband services to rural parts of North-West Kildare

“I am delighted to unveil the coverage map of areas which will receive fibre speed broadband where previously there has been slow or inconsistent broadband coverage. Working with Imagine, we have brought the service to the north west of the county following meetings with residents and hearing their concerns around the lack of coverage in the area.”

“As a member of the Oireachtas Joint Committee on Communications, Climate Change and Natural Resources, and someone who is passionate about improving our broadband services I am delighted to be able to let residents know of the service rollout which is live and taking applications now. A huge issue when I met with residents in the area was the lack of coverage in places like Newtown, Johnstownbridge, Carbury, Broadford, and Timahoe. All these areas will now have access to fibre speed broadband. As people can see from the coverage map there is now comprehensive coverage across north west Kildare.”

“It has been said time and again how important broadband is for the local community in terms of education and business. It is a credit to Imagine for working with me and appreciating the concern and demand from residents in the area.”

O’ROURKE WELCOMES WORKS ON MAYNOOTH ROAD

Frank O’Rourke TD is delighted that the footpath upgrade and improvements on the Maynooth road in Celbridge is near completed.

Frank commented, “This is an issue raised with me by the many people who use this footpath and it’s a project which I have been working to have completed for some time with my colleague Cllr Michael Coleman.”

“This project was put forward to be funded from the retained L.P.T money. Projects such as this would not be carried out without this funding stream. It is important that L.P.T money is invested in the local area and community to give benefit to everyone.”

“Michael and I will continue to work to secure further funding to improve and upgrade our footpath and road network. We must have a high quality footpath infrastructure to encourage people to walk and exercise more.”

“I want to thank Kildare County Council area staff for their assistance in delivering this project and the many people who raised this issue with me.”

O’ROURKE SEEKS EXPANSION IN HOUSING ADAPTATION GRANT

Frank O’Rourke TD has said that extra resources for Housing Adaptation Grants are needed to assist with independent living

Frank commented, ‘Given the projected increase in the number of older people in Ireland, it is important that we put in place polices and supports to deal with this reality.  In 2006, there were 468,000 people aged 65 or older in Ireland, but by 2041, the number of people in this country aged 65 or older will be 1.4 million. The over-80s population is projected to rise from 128,000 in 2011 to between 470,000 and 484,000 in 2046.’

LAWLESS WELCOMES PROGRESS ON MORRELL FLOOD SCHEME

James Lawless is delighted that a feasibility study has finally been commissioned into tackling flooding in the Lower Morrell area
The Lower Morrell area, comprising the rural townlands of Kileenmore, Alasty, Painestown, Daars and Turnings between Sallins, Straffan and Clane, has been hit repeatedly by flooding over the past several years as the Morrell and Painestown rivers burst their banks any time of high rainfall which floods houses and property all throughout those areas.
James Lawless said, “Despite this being an issue for the past several years, it has taken a very long time to have attention focused on it in terms of securing the necessary relief to carry out prevention works.”

LAWLESS SPEAKS ON IRISH WATER IN THE DAIL

James Lawless TD spoke in the Dail today during the debate on Irish Water.

His full contribution is below:

“I thank the Acting Chairman for giving me the opportunity to contribute to the debate, although with only two Members on the Government benches, I am not sure it qualifies as a debate. I am glad, however, that this issue is now being brought to a head. It is an important issue but by no means the most important. The amount of airtime it has received in recent weeks has been disproportionate. Other matters such as health, education, transport, energy, broadband and housing are huge issues that have suffered owing to the inordinate focus placed on water provision in the set-up of this Dáil.
