O’CEARUIL’S CLIMATE EMERGENCY MOTION PASSED

Cllr Naoise O’Cearuil’s motion to declare a Climate and Biodiversity Emergency has been passed by Kildare County Council.

Cllr Naoise O’Cearuil has welcomed the support he received from his fellow Councillors for his Climate and Biodiversity Emergency motion.

Reacting afterwards, Naoise said, “Thank you to all councillors that supported my motion. Th3 the main thing is that the Council must now Climate proof its policies and make tangible targets rather than aspirational. The time for action is now.” 

COLEMAN TABLES MOTIONS FOR CELBRIDGE MD MEETING

Cllr Michael Colernan has put two motions down for the coming Celbridge/Leixlip Municipal District (MD) Meeting on Friday 15th March

The First Motion is as follows :

1. That Main Street Celbridge be made a poster free zone from Castletown Gates to the Grotto. Supporting the request of Celbridge Tidy Towns.

The Second Motion is as follows : 

2. That the Council sends a letter to all household bin providers in the MD in relation to the damage that bin lorries are causing to kerbs and surrounding green areas. Below is a link to a Kildarenow article regarding the damage being caused by bin lorries.

KELLY WELCOMES TAKING IN CHARGE OF ESTATES

Cllr Carmel Kelly has welcomed news that estates in Kill, Naas and Sallins are finally being Taken In Charge.

Estates cannot avail of public services until they have been taken in charge by the Council. Such services might include the provision of street lights, clearing of drains, the fixing of potholes.

“The Taking In Charge of estates is an issue I have been highlighting for some time, a few months back following another request, I received a 30+ page report listing the many estates not yet in charge.”, Carmel said.

Below is a List of estates that the Building and Development Control Section propose to be taken in charge in the coming 6 months in Naas Municipal District: :

KILL – Saddlers Hall, Glendara and Rochford Abbey
SALLINS – Straffan Way
NAAS – Landen Park, Racecourse Gate and The Maudlings.

The following estates are proposed to be taken in charge by the end of the year:

SALLINS – Osberstown Court, Park, Drive, Sallins Wharf and Pier
NAAS – Aldergrove and Killashee View
KILL – Whitethorn Grove – The Mews

COLEMAN WELCOMES PLAYGROUND COMPLETION

Cllr Michael Coleman has welcomed the completion of works today on the Aghards Road Playground in Celbridge

Cllr Coleman commented, “I have worked with Deputy Frank O’Rourke and the Parks Department to have the improvement works done. I would also like to thank Simon and Fergal for their continued support for the playground.”

LAWLESS WELCOMES PLANNED SALE OF NAAS SHOPPING CENTRE

James Lawless TD has welcomed the news that the Naas Shopping Centre is to be put up for sale in March. James has been actively involved with trying to expedite the sale and development of the site for many years.

James commented, “I have had multiple meetings with NAMA, KCC, many potential buyers, the sellers and the receiver of this development over the past few years. With the imminent arrival of Dunnes to Naas Main Street, the trading environment is changing and the final sale of this property will accelerate that.”

James added, “The preference of KCC and myself is for the centre to be bought and developed as a shopping centre but any serious proposal should be considered. Whatever happens next, this is the start of a new chapter for Naas town.”
