James Lawless TD has criticised the use of clamping in the Waterways Carpark in Sallins
James said, “In the past week alone I have been contacted by many commuters who have been unfairly clamped. These car parks have been used for commuters at Sallins train station for many years, including myself.”
” I understand the arrangement had worked well while providing convenience and capacity to the train station. Now however, the car park has been split by the two management companies with little to no additional signage informing commuters of where to park and pay following the new arrangements.” Continue reading “LAWLESS CALLS FOR FAIRER PARKING REGULATION IN WATERWAYS”
Fianna Fáil TD for Kildare North Frank O’Rourke says legislative change is needed to deal with outstanding problems with vehicle parking in Kildare
Deputy O’Rourke made the comments after putting forward an amendment to the Road Traffic Bill 2016 which is currently being debated by the Dáil. If accepted, the amendment will enable Local Authorities to make small alterations to parking bye-laws to deal with problems as they arise.
“Currently Kildare County Council has to go through a full public consultation process when making changes to parking bye-laws. This is needed for ensuring there is proper oversight associated with large scale changes to bye-laws, but it is unnecessarily restrictive when dealing with small issues,” explained Deputy O’Rourke.
“For example the council has to undertake such a public consultation, which includes seeking advice from the Garda Commissioner, when simply wanting to add an additional disability parking place. This is an unnecessarily complicated process and actually discourages Local Authorities from making practical changes to parking arrangements in towns and villages.”
“The Road Traffic Bill is currently being debated in the Dáil and I have put forward proposals to deal with this problem. If accepted, my amendment will enable Local Authorities to make minor alternations to parking spaces, loading bays and the positioning of parking payment machines. This will allow for parking related problems to be dealt with as they arise and will also help cut down on excessive costs.”
“This is a common sense proposal and I am hopeful that it will receive cross party support. There are a myriad of parking related problems in Kildare and it is important that the Local Authority is equipped to deal with these issues,” concluded Deputy O’Rourke.
Frank O’Rourke TD has called on the Government to increase the resources to Irish Rail to provide additional park and ride places for Maynooth Bus and Rail commuters
‘One of my first meetings when I got elected in February was in relation to public transport services. I was delighted that in April, the NTA put the provision of a bus service from Naas to Blanchardstown via Clane, Rathcoffey and Maynooth on its agenda following my representations.’
‘Progress has also been made in improving the Bus Service for Kilcock commuters and now we have made significant progress on providing a Park and Ride for Kilcock. However, Maynooth needs more park and ride place and I believe that resources should be provided to increase the number of car parking place in Maynooth for public transport users.’ Stated Deputy O’Rourke.
‘Maynooth is served well by both Rail and Bus from a timetable perspective, but given the low cost of money, the Government should provide capital for extra park and ride places. I will continue to raise this matter in the Dail.’ Concluded Deputy O’Rourke.
A full review of Naas town parking by-laws proposed by Cllr James Lawless was agreed at a recent meeting of the Naas Municipal District.
James said,”A motion I put forward was passed by the council seeking to immediately commence a review of the pay parking laws around the town. After 18 months of effort to improve the parking situation in Naas a root and branch review of the entire situation is now needed to bring things forward. Over the last 18 months I’ve made many attempts to bring about improvements to the parking situation in the town. It is becoming very frustrating and progress is slow. Therefore I believe at this stage the only way forward is to bring all parties together to hammer out a parking deal for the town. Businesses, residents and shoppers alike need progress on this critical issue.” Continue reading “Lawless Motion on Naas Town parking passed by Council”
