LAWLESS RAISES OPERATION OF COMMUNITY EMPLOYMENT SCHEMES IN THE DAIL

James Lawless queried the operation of Tús and Community Employment schemes in the Dáil today

James said, “Too often a worker is willing and able to remain placed with the same institution (usually a charitable or community organisation like Tidy Towns or McAuley Place) but is forced by “job-path” to spend a year in limbo and seeking alternate work.”

“This sees both the organisation and the individual losing out on an arrangement that gives the individual a job they enjoy and the organisation an extra staff member. “

“This all stems from changes made to the scheme last August when it was outsourced to private providers. Following my question Minister Varadkar has agreed to review the operation of the scheme.”

O’ROURKE SPEAKS ON WATER SERVICES BILL IN THE DAIL

Frank O’Rourke TD spoke on the Water Services Bill in the Dail two days ago

Frank said, “On 28th June, I spoke in the Dáil about Irish Water & the burden it has become for families in Ireland.The government’s creation of Irish Water has left the Irish taxpayer €59 million worse off this year, than if it had not been set up.”

O’ROURKE PROPOSES EXTENSION OF CHILD BENEFIT IN THE DAIL

The Government is considering a proposal put forward in the Dail by Frank O’Rourke TD in connection with extending child benefit to 18 and 19 year olds who are in full time education

Frank commented, ‘At the moment, when a child in full time education reaches the age of 18, they lose their entitlement to Child Benefit. However, as many families know, the costs associated with keeping children in full time education continues and there is a gap in the supports available for families for the 18-19 year age bracket that are in secondary school education.’

O’ROURKE PRESSES FOR COMPREHENSIVE HOMECARE STRATEGY

Frank O’Rourke TD has said that a comprehensive strategy for Home Care is needed if we are to provide a sustainable home care structure for the future according to Kildare North

Deputy Frank O’Rourke made the statement following a meeting with a number of families in Leixlip and Clane that required home care for their elderly parents.

Speaking in the Dail on this issue, Deputy O’Rourke has highlighted the problems that families are dealing with on a regular basis.  ‘As Ireland’s population grows, the provision of quality home care is one of Ireland’s greatest challenges.
