LAWLESS JOINS CLIMATE PROTESTORS IN NAAS

James Lawless joined climate strike and extinction rebellion protesters at Naas town hall yesterday.

James said, “Many of them were children on Schoolstrike. I discussed with them the importance of using and investing in public transport, moving to renewable fuels and properly managing our scarce resources. Also “Green Friday” should see us shop local and source produce as close to home as possible. Groups like these make a difference and continue to send a message to politicians that we must continually do more ourselves and bring others with us on this critical journey.”

LAWLESS URGES GOVERNMENT TO ACT ON CLIMATE CHANGE

James Lawless spoke in the Dáil today about climate change and criticised the Government’s inaction.

James said, “The Government recently published a climate action plan but their failure to properly finance public transport and the SEAI retrofitting fiasco highlights their hypocrisy on this most important issue, as does the Taoiseach’s delayed criticism of the Mercosur deal and the fires in the Amazon.”

“Tomorrow’s climate strike by students across the country is a timely reminder for the Government that minds need to be focussed on urgently improving Ireland’s climate record.”

O’CEARUIL’S CLIMATE EMERGENCY MOTION PASSED

Cllr Naoise O’Cearuil’s motion to declare a Climate and Biodiversity Emergency has been passed by Kildare County Council.

Cllr Naoise O’Cearuil has welcomed the support he received from his fellow Councillors for his Climate and Biodiversity Emergency motion.

Reacting afterwards, Naoise said, “Thank you to all councillors that supported my motion. Th3 the main thing is that the Council must now Climate proof its policies and make tangible targets rather than aspirational. The time for action is now.”

LAWLESS SPEAKS ON CLIMATE EMERGENCY MEASURES

James Lawless TD spoke recently in the Dail on proposed Climate Emergency measures.

“The longer we keep looking for other sources, the more we delay a transition to an entirely renewable energy mix. Apart from the environmental and moral imperative there is huge economic opportunity in a ‘green revolution’ to create high tech jobs in engineering, renewable technologies and a whole new energy industry.”

LAWLESS JOINS NAAS STUDENTS ON CLIMATE PROTEST

James Lawless TD joined some of the students protesting for Climate Action on the streets of Naas today

James commented, “Their generation gets that change is needed and urgently. At Dail level I have supported and spoken on bills to divest fossil fuel investments, to ban new fossil fuel explorations, to reduce waste, to ban single use plastics and many more. With the world heating more in the last 150 years than the previous 5,000 the time for action is now.”
