COLEMAN TABLES MOTIONS FOR CELBRIDGE MD MEETING

Cllr Michael Colernan has put two motions down for the coming Celbridge/Leixlip Municipal District (MD) Meeting on Friday 15th March

The First Motion is as follows :

1. That Main Street Celbridge be made a poster free zone from Castletown Gates to the Grotto. Supporting the request of Celbridge Tidy Towns.

The Second Motion is as follows : 

2. That the Council sends a letter to all household bin providers in the MD in relation to the damage that bin lorries are causing to kerbs and surrounding green areas. Below is a link to a Kildarenow article regarding the damage being caused by bin lorries.

O’CEARUIL CALLS FOR IRISH LANGUAGE EDUCATION CAMPUS IN MAYNOOTH

Cllr Naoise O’Cearuil has called for an Irish Language Education Campus to be established in Maynooth

Cllr O’Cearuil asserted the need for such a campus during an interview on KFM earlier today.

It follows the awarding yesterday of patronage of a new primary school in the town to An Forás Pátrúnachta. This 8 classroom school, the town’s second gaelscoil, will open, in temporary accommodation, in September. A gaelcholáiste is to open in Maynooth at the same time.

KELLY WELCOMES TAKING IN CHARGE OF ESTATES

Cllr Carmel Kelly has welcomed news that estates in Kill, Naas and Sallins are finally being Taken In Charge.

Estates cannot avail of public services until they have been taken in charge by the Council. Such services might include the provision of street lights, clearing of drains, the fixing of potholes.

“The Taking In Charge of estates is an issue I have been highlighting for some time, a few months back following another request, I received a 30+ page report listing the many estates not yet in charge.”, Carmel said.

Below is a List of estates that the Building and Development Control Section propose to be taken in charge in the coming 6 months in Naas Municipal District: :

KILL – Saddlers Hall, Glendara and Rochford Abbey
SALLINS – Straffan Way
NAAS – Landen Park, Racecourse Gate and The Maudlings.

The following estates are proposed to be taken in charge by the end of the year:

SALLINS – Osberstown Court, Park, Drive, Sallins Wharf and Pier
NAAS – Aldergrove and Killashee View
KILL – Whitethorn Grove – The Mews

O’CEARUIL CALLS FOR FULL-TIME GARDA STATION IN MAYNOOTH

Councillor Naoise O’Cearuil has called for a full-time Garda station in Maynooth following the latest spate of burglaries in the town on Monday the 21st of January.

These burglaries occurred during the evening and a number of vehicles were stolen. Houses in new estates Hayfield and Carton Wood were targeted in this most recent attack. The perpetrators used the “fishing” method on some homes, where they put a fishing rod in through the letter box to pick up keys on nearby tables.

Commenting on the matter, Councillor Ó Cearúil said, “Once again, the town is being targeted by thugs who have an easy escape onto the N4. My own home has been targeted in the past and this is becoming a far too regular occurrence”.

He continued, “I’ve been calling for a full-time station in Maynooth for years. Taking the burglaries aside, Maynooth is the only town in the country with a University. This means that the town has an additional population of 12,000 which is not accounted for in the census figures and all the additional issues that 12,000 people bring with it. We are looking at an even bigger population with the increase in houses in the area. I am unaware of any town in Ireland with a population of over 24,000 people without a full-time station… Enough is enough”

“It is high time that the Minister for Justice and Commissioner Harris recognise the need for a full time operational station in Maynooth. I have written to Chief Superintendent Wall, Minister Charlie Flanagan and Commissioner Harris calling for a full-time station in Maynooth”.

O’ROURKE WELCOMES APPOINTMENT OF CELBRIDGE COMMUNITY GARDA


Frank O’Rourke TD and Cllr Michael Coleman have welcomed the confirmation that a permanent Community Garda will be appointed to Celbridge Garda Station within the next two months.

 

Frank commented, “I’m pleased that the Garda resources are strengthening in Celbridge. This was a commitment both myself and Cllr Michael Coleman got when we met Garda management last year. This is further positive news for Celbridge and I will continue to keep a focus on having further resources allocated to Celbridge and Kildare. Last year, I raised the relatively low level of Garda numbers in Celbridge and in Kildare generally, and called on the Department of Justice to fairly distribute Garda resources. Kildare has one of the lowest level of Garda numbers in the country. The numbers are now improving incrementally In Kildare, and we need further additional resources allocated to the different locations in Kildare.” 

“I do want to acknowledge that we have made some progress in terms of Garda numbers in the last 2 years in Celbridge, but we must make further progress and bring Kildare in line with the national average. I want to thank the Gardí for the continued commitment on this important issue. I will continue to press the Minister for additional Garda resources.”, concluded Deputy O’Rourke.
