LAWLESS AND KELLY DISAPPOINTED AT PLAYGROUND VANDALISM

Councillor Carmel Kelly has expressed her bitter disappointment at the recent vandalism in the new Sallins Playground which has resulted in the closure of the facility

Carmel said, “I’m really sad that our playground is closed. There are some out there who just do not appreciate how long we have waited for this fabulous facility. The re-opening date unknown at this time.”

James added, “It is very disappointing that a small group of people would sabotage their own area. The community in Sallins waited a long time for a facility like the playground and it is incredibly frustrating that it would be deliberately damaged. Anti-social behaviour at the playground has been an issue since it opened in June and it is important that secure fencing is now provided ahead of the official opening in November so that it can be an amenity for Sallins for years to come.”

LAWLESS RAISES MAYNOOTH TRAFFIC CONGESTION IN THE DAIL

James Lawless TD raised the recent chronic traffic congestion in Maynooth town in the Dáil this afternoon

James asked the Tánaiste to ensure government prioritises work on the second motorway interchange.

James said, “This is one part of the puzzle in relieving pressures across the town which have brought traffic to a standstill of late.”

O’ROURKE PRESSES FOR GREATER SUPPORT FOR OLDER PEOPLE

Frank O’Rourke TD has pressed the Government for additional resources to support older people

LAWLESS SPEAKS AT DEVOY SYMPOSIUM

“I was honored to be a speaker at this morning’s Kildare decade of commemorations symposium in honour of John Devoy and to join such distinguished company as RTE’s David McCullough on Dev, historian Liz Gillis on the “G-Men” as well as our own always excellent James Durney and Mario Corrigan. Well done to them as well as Cllr Padraig McLoughlin and his committee and all involved in putting the event together, just the latest in a wonderful series of events. My own talk focused on the politics of commemorations and how the present is sometimes shaped through the lens of the past.”

LAWLESS SUPPORTS SCHOOL SECRETARIES’ STRIKE ACTION

James said, “I was delighted to join local School Secretaries in Sallins this morning and offer support to them in their strike for proper pay and conditions. 90% of school secretaries do not have the same safeguards in place as the other 10% who are employed directly by the Department. They are at a great disadvantage in terms of sick pay, certainty of hours or pay increases. Many have to sign on for social welfare payments during the summer months as there is no holiday pay.”

“School secretaries are vital to schools and they have to be treated with the respect they deserve. The Workplace Relations Commission has mandated that talks would take place between the Government and the Unions. It is not good enough that the Government has not engaged in this process.”
