James Lawless TD spoke recently in the Dail on proposed Climate Emergency measures.
“The longer we keep looking for other sources, the more we delay a transition to an entirely renewable energy mix. Apart from the environmental and moral imperative there is huge economic opportunity in a ‘green revolution’ to create high tech jobs in engineering, renewable technologies and a whole new energy industry.”
Naas Area Election Candidate Brian Larkin along with fellow candidates, Cllr Carmel Kelly and Terry Dignan have stated their opposition to the proposed “Route 2” Inner Relief Road in the town.
Brian said “While knocking on doors with my canvass team and following receipt of many indepth e-mails from residents, it has become apparent that the proposed Naas inner relief road is an issue of major concern. I am proud to say I will be showing my support to any and all opposing this plan.”
“Naas like many kildare towns has experienced a rapid expansion in population with which current policy and plans have not kept pace. This plan was originally drawn up in an era when naas was a much smaller town, now when KCC finally have gotten around to implementing this plan. We now need a fresh new approach to solve the traffic congestion problem in Naas.”

James commented, “Their generation gets that change is needed and urgently. At Dail level I have supported and spoken on bills to divest fossil fuel investments, to ban new fossil fuel explorations, to reduce waste, to ban single use plastics and many more. With the world heating more in the last 150 years than the previous 5,000 the time for action is now.”
James Lawless TD criticised the lack of attention being given by the Government to CE schemes when he attended the community employment scheme supervisor’s protest outside the department of finance today.
James commented, “These schemes have been badly let down by the present government with supervisors denied pension rights and applicants forced into ill suited JobPath courses rather than being allowed participate in meaningful, local activities. The collapse of the UK parent company behind much of the JobPath courses highlights the danger of privatising the community sector.”
“Myself and my Fianna Fáil colleagues have highlighted these issues repeatedly in the Dail and are committed to pursuing this at every level. “
James Lawless has said that he and party colleague Jack Chambers raised concerns about the location and cost implications about the National Children’s Hospital two years ago but they weren’t heeded.
James commented, “The childrens’ hospital costs continue to mount and questions around price, specification and site have to be asked. My colleague Jack Chambers TD and I were saying all this two years ago but the government didn’t want to know.”
