NAAS COMMUTER EXPERIENCE MUST BE IMPROVED – DIGNAN

Naas Fianna Fáil Candidate Terry Dignan has said that both short-term and long-term solutions are needed to improve the services for the thousands of Naas Residents who commute to work in Dublin every day.

Terry’s comments come on the back of a Public meeting Terry and James Lawless hosted on Thursday 18th April in Lawlor’s Hotel which focussed on public transport issues for local commuters out of which Terry and James have set up an action group with over twenty people signed up who want to see change.

Terry said, “James gave a very detailed update on the plans for the improvement in the Rail services. We had a pragmatic discussion on issues such as overcrowding on trains, lack of parking space, inadequate timetables, disability access and the feeder-bus service.”

“We also talked about short-term solutions such as having trains retrofitted with grab-handles and poles to improve safety. Longer-term solutions which James has been working on include extending the short-hop fare zone to Newbridge to ease demand at Sallins, and increasing the available Rail stock.”

Terry concluded, “I hope to be able to continue working with James on these and other issues if elected”

DIGNAN CONCERNED AT ALLEGATIONS OF THREATS

Naas Fianna Fáil candidate Terry Dignan has expressed concern about the alleged threatening of a Councillor in relation to his opposition to the proposed Naas Inner Relief Road.

Terry was commenting on the allegation made by Cllr Darren Scully that an unidentified caller had threatened that €10,000 would be spent on a negative campaign to try and prevent him being re-elected.

Terry commented, “Integrity and transparency have to be the cornerstones of democracy both at national and local level. Every local representative should be able to vote in whatever way they believe represents the best interest of the people they were elected to serve. “

LARKIN OPPOSES ROUTE 2 NAAS RELIEF ROAD PROPOSAL

Naas Area Election Candidate Brian Larkin along with fellow candidates, Cllr Carmel Kelly and Terry Dignan have stated their opposition to the proposed “Route 2” Inner Relief Road in the town.

Brian said “While knocking on doors with my canvass team and following receipt of many indepth e-mails from residents, it has become apparent that the proposed Naas inner relief road is an issue of major concern. I am proud to say I will be showing my support to any and all opposing this plan.”

“Naas like many kildare towns has experienced a rapid expansion in population with which current policy and plans have not kept pace. This plan was originally drawn up in an era when naas was a much smaller town, now when KCC finally have gotten around to implementing this plan. We now need a fresh new approach to solve the traffic congestion problem in Naas.”

O’ROURKE WELCOMES TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT IMPROVEMENTS IN KILCOCK

Frank O’Rourke TD  has welcomed the confirmation of news that Traffic Signals are going to be installed at the junction of Ryebridge in Kilcock.

Frank commented, “Residents from Ryebridge Estate had contacted me over the last number of years highlighting the need to improve traffic management for cars trying to get onto the Old Galway Road from their estate at the Enfield/Summerhill junction.” 

“I am delighted that we now have confirmation that Traffic Lights will be installed in the coming months which will bring benefit to the residents of Ryebridge. I have also been informed that there will be a cycle track installed by the end of this summer form Ryebridge Estate to Kilcock Town Centre via the Mill Lane.”

“I want to acknowledge the work of the Council, the developer and the Residents in the Estate for their work with me in relation to this project. I look forward to the works been completed as soon as possible.”

O’ROURKE WELCOMES SCHOOL BUS CONFIRMATION FOR JOHNSTOWNBRIDGE

Frank O’Rourke TD has welcomed the confirmation from the Department of Education and Skills that a school bus will now be provided for children from Johnstownbridge attending Scoil Dara in Kilcock.

Frank commented, “The new school transport service will be extended from Enfield to Johnstownbridge, thereby enabling all children living along this route to have access to a school bus service. I first raised this matter with the Minister and his officials, when a number of parents contacted me with their concerns.”

“I met regularly with the Minister of State with responsibility for school transport, John Halligan T.D., asking what steps are being taken to resolve this issue. Following on from these meetings, a recommendation is being prepared by Department Officials for the Minister’s approval and sign-off. I understand that this process is anticipated to be finalised in approximately 2 to 3 weeks.”

“I am delighted to have assisted in having this very important issue progressed for the children attending Scoil Dara Kilcock, and for their parents”, concluded Deputy O’Rourke
