Lawless confirms Dunnes Stores to be open by Christmas in Naas

James Lawless TD has confirmed that Dunnes Stores will indeed be open and fully operational by this coming Christmas in Naas.

James commented, “Excellent news for Naas Main Street as I have had it confirmed that Dunnes Stores is on course for opening this Christmas 2018. The “To Let” signs revealed on the site in recent days are erroneous and will be taken down overnight. The council have given full planning permission for a supermarket and street cafe and the plan is to have it open by Christmas.”

Orbital Route Bus Service to start on Monday – O’Rourke

Frank O’Rourke TD has said that the new Orbital Route bus service which he has campaigned for,from Naas to Blanchardstown via  will commence next Monday. 

“The preferred bidder for the Orbital Route from Naas to Blanchardstown, Route 139, has been decided and will come into effect on Monday 12th next. It will service Naas to Blanchardstown via Clane, Rathcoffey, Maynooth and Leixlip.”

“It is going to service Blanchardstown IT and Naas Hospital, with nine services each way, seven days a week, with first departures at 07.15 and last departures at 22.35 and will be run for the NTA (National Transport Authority) by JJ Kavanagh & Sons.” Continue reading “Orbital Route Bus Service to start on Monday – O’Rourke”

Mayor Robert Power welcomes Digital Hub announcement for Naas

Cllr Rob Power has expressed delight at the approval of Enterprise Ireland funding for a digital hub in Naas. The Mid East Regional Innovation Think Space (MERITS) is a new build project that will cluster Irish and international new technology companies in a collaborative space in Naas town centre.

Rob said, “I’m absolutely thrilled that we’ve secured the funding for this project. Establishing a Digital Hub in the town not only secures short and long-term employment in the local area but puts Naas on the map internationally as a place to start and grow a digital business.”

Enterprise Ireland has granted €2M toward the Digital Hub which will be matched by Kildare County Council. The project which was drawn up by the Kildare Local Enterprise Office, is expected to pay for itself within three years. The proposal will see Kildare County Council design and build the facility on a section of state owned lands adjacent to the council Headquarters at Aras Cill Dara, Naas. .”

“I’m really optimistic about what the Digital Hub means for Naas. Ten to fourteen years ago the Irish tech sector was a very niche industry confined to Dublin. But as the industry matures so too does the workforce. Where once companies worried about locating in the city centre to attract younger workers, the sector is now witnessing an increasing demand for housing and quality of life for families. Over the next decade, I’m confident that Naas can take on any town in the country in this respect – and win.”

“I’ve been calling for a project like this since 2015 when I wrote a proposal to establish funding for hubs in every county across the country. That proposal was subsequently included in the Fianna Fail election manifesto in 2016. In March of this year I also made a direct call for Kildare County Council to begin the process of seeking funding for a Digital Hub in Naas.Congratulations are due to Kildare County Council CEO Peter Carey, Head of Kildare LEO Jacqui McNabb and their teams for the outstanding work to date on this project. The ambition they’ve shown in identifying Naas as a regional leader in digital enterprise will play a vital part in the towns future

Cllr Deborah Callaghan welcomes opening of Columbarium Wall

Councillor Deborah Callaghan has said she is delighted to have been part of bringing a Columbarium wall – which is a monumental wall purpose-built to hold cremated remains – to Saint Corban’s cemetery. This wall is the first of its kind in the county. The original idea for the Columbarium Wall was championed by Deborah’s late father Cllr Willie Callaghan in 2013.

Cllr James Lawless criticises significant delays caused by roadworks

Cllr James Lawless has called for prompt conclusion of the roadworks currently causing delays around the town.

“As we are all too well aware, roadwork delays in the Naas area are adding to traffic woes. This has become particularly acute as the busy season commences and adverse weather makes driving conditions more difficult for motorists. There are three major roadworks projects underway: the Sallins Rd. roundabout widening, Main St. bus stop upgrades, and Kilcullen Rd. roadworks. All of these together are contributing adversely to the movement of traffic around Naas town and Sallins village. While it is welcome to see these projects being carried out, I would have hoped that they would have been carried out in a timely and efficient manner. Instead, we’ve had to put up with the opposite.”

“Therefore I’ve stressed  with stakeholders involved the URGENT need for prompt completion of the roadworks to relieve this traffic chaos, especially now in the run up to Christmas. The Sallins Rd. roundabout and Kilcullen Rd. upgrade in particular are simply taking far too long to complete. It is unacceptable.
