Frank O’Rourke TD has called on Kildare Co Co to engage in a public consultation process with the people of Clane to ensure their concerns are taken into consideration in light of the increase demand to live in the area together with the current level of development
“It is very important that the people of Clane are consulted in relation to the proposed increase in population for Clane over the next number of years and that developments are sustainable and in keeping with the area.”, Frank said.
“I have met with a number of Clane residents recently who are concerned that the town does not have facilities to deal with a growth in population that is being proposed.”
“The people of Clane are not against development. However, it is understandable that if the population grows without matching facilities, we will fail our communities. Communities throughout Kildare need to be confident that residential development will be in keeping with the area in terms of density and have the matching facilities.”
“I am calling on Kildare Co Co to set up an interagency group to in the first place capture the concerns of the people of Clane. These concerns include, school places, public transport, road network, waste water treatment and recreational/sporting facilities.”
“The National Transport Authority, Department of Sport, Department of Education and cross function representatives from Kildare Co Co should set up a consultative team to capture these concerns and to deal with them in the planning process.”
“I have repeatedly stated we need to put public facilities and infrastructure in place before or in tandem with residential development. I do not see this happening at the moment. As we see, when we do not have engagement with local communities, resistance can build up. Working together, we can have a greater number of residents, with matching facilities.” Concluded Deputy O’Rourke.
