O’Cearuil outlines concerns about Harbour Field

Cllr Naoise O’Cearuil has outlined his concerns about plans for a car park in the Harbour field.

Naoise said, “There has been quite some interest around the possibility of a car park in the Harbour Field. I highlighted in the February edition of the Maynooth Newsletter my concerns with the proposal.  I also raised my concerns at the recent Maynooth MD meeting. Cllr McGinley and I were the only councillors to raise objections to the proposal.”

Naoise’s comments in the newsletter were as follows : “My biggest concern is that the Harbour Field is made any smaller. It is the most important green space we have in the town and it belongs to the people of Maynooth. While there is a need for additional parking in Maynooth, I wouldn’t like to see us impeding on one of the greatest assets we have as a town.”

Extra Capacity needed on Maynooth and Sallins trains – Lawless

James Lawless TD recently questioned the Taoiseach on the need for better public transport for the greater Dublin area.

“Currently the car parks at the Sallins and Naas station are averaging 165% to 175% capacity and other stations in the area experience similar problems.  With the car parks operating so far over capacity, anyone arriving past 7.30 a.m. would have no chance at a space.  I have been advised by Irish Rail that they would gladly expand the car park, provided the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport allow funding.  With this, I requested the Taoiseach to ask the Minister to examine the issue.”

“In response to my question the Taoiseach agreed that passenger numbers on the train have now exceeded the levels of before the financial crisis yet there has been no action to improve the lines.  The Taoiseach indicated that this matter will be considered as a part of a 10 year investment plan that the government intends to publish in the coming weeks.  The plan seeks to upgrade train lines significantly through additional carriages, electrification and car parks.”

O’Cearuil raises concerns about Student socialising at MD meeting

Talks have been urged between Maynooth University, Maynooth Students’ Union, the Gardaí and Maynooth Business Association to discuss night-time student activities in the town.

The matter was raised at the latest local Municipal District meeting by Cllr Naoise Ó Cearúil.

Naoise called for the groups to be invited to an “informal forum to discuss ways in dealing with student nights and annual events/festivals that cause issues in the town.”
