O’ROURKE SEEKS BUS SHELTER FOR RATHCOFFEY

Frank O’Rourke TD has called on the National Transport Authority (NTA) and Kildare County Council to provide a Bus Shelter at Rathcoffey

“After working with the communities in Rathcoffey and Clane to secure Orbital Bus Route 139 linking Naas to Blanchardstown via Clane, Rathcoffey, Maynooth and Leixlip, it is now important that we provide adequate supports to support bus commuters, as passengers numbers grow.”

“Passenger numbers on Route 139 reached a peak of 11,500 per 4 week period, in late 2018 and early 2019. I have seen myself at first hand the numbers grow. The Route, since last month, now allows a link to the Sallins train station which is an important link for those using this service and should lead to further growth in passenger numbers.”

“We now need to provide a bus shelter in Rathcoffey to provide some comfort for commuters using this service. I have contacted Kildare Co Co and the NTA and made representations to have this Bus stop provided.”

“We must improve our public transport services. I have made representations to have this Route 139 link directly to Blanchardstown Connolly Hospital. The National Transport Authority have informed me that they have no plans in place to adjust the service at the moment, but I will continue to make representations to have the service extended.”

“I have also requested that an Orbital Bus route be provided which would connect Clane/ Straffan /Ardclough area to Maynooth and / or Celbridge. Linking these smaller towns and villages to regular public transport services will ensure that we encourage more and more people to use public transport.”
